Where Data Tells the Story

Engineers are one of the steadier bets in the job market. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that engineering jobs will grow 8% between 2025 and 2035, against 3% for the U.S. workforce as a whole.
Industrial engineers are projected to grow fastest, at 12%. Mechanical (11%), electrical (10%) and computer hardware (9%) are the only other fields that beat the engineering average. Industrial and mechanical alone add roughly 79,000 jobs, which is more than half of the new jobs across all 17 engineering fields BLS tracks.
The percentages don’t tell the whole story, though. Civil engineers grow just 6%, but there are so many of them that it still means 24,500 new jobs. Agricultural engineers grow 7%, but that’s only 100 jobs.
Orange bars grow faster than the engineering average and teal bars grow at or below it.
