Wealth in Germany

Our adaptation of the original graphic by interface designer Gustav Neustadt from Datawrapper shows: Five percent of Germans live with negative net wealth and are mostly in debt, while the average citizen has a small financial cushion of €22,800.
Those who inherit property have wealth on paper, but often little money for necessary renovations.
The richest families-such as the Albrechts, Schwarzes, and Quandts-have remained at the top for decades and have weathered all economic crises. The wealth of the super-rich is difficult to quantify, as it is made up of stocks, company values, and inventories.
