On average, 27% of people aged 16 and older in the European Union were unable to afford a one-week vacation in 2024. In Romania, this percentage was significantly higher, with more than half of the population lacking the financial means to take a vacation, while in Luxembourg, less than 10% faced similar constraints. However, the situation appears to be improving. According to Eurostat, slightly more Europeans can afford a vacation compared to the previous year, and the proportion of people able to afford a vacation has increased by around 10 percentage points over the past decade.
