How Often Do Chinese Tourists Travel?

China’s growing middle class has been matched by a growing tourism industry. The nation is one of avid travelers, with 87 percent of urban respondents in a recent Statista survey having been on a trip for non-business purposes over the past 12 months. By comparison, in the United States, 68 percent of respondents said the same.
More than four in ten urban Chinese tourists enjoy two to three vacations per year. Meanwhile, around a fifth of respondents have traveled four to five times. Just over one in ten have not traveled for non-business related trips at all in the past 12 months. Six or more vacations, on the other hand, were rarer. This is according to the latest Statista Consumer Insights survey, carried out between October 2023 and September 2024.
The most popular types of trip among respondents in China in the past 12 months were city trips (55 percent), nature or outdoor vacations (49 percent) and beach vacations (43 percent).
