US Airports with the Most Firearms Caught at Security

It’s illegal to bring a firearm onto a plane but people still try (or maybe they just forgot their gun was in their bag…)
In 2024, TSA officers intercepted 6,678 firearms at airports across America. With 904 passengers traveling annually, that’s an average of of 7.4 firearms per million passengers. The Transportation Security Administration reports that approximately 94% of the firearms were loaded. The good news is that the number is down from 2023, when the rate per million passengers was 7.8.
This chart maps the top ten airports with the most interceptions of weapons at security check-ins. Many of these airports are some of the busiest in the country, including Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson which was the #1 busiest airport in 2024.
