The World’s Most Innovative Economies
The 2025 Global Innovation Index from WIPO highlights how innovation leadership remains concentrated but increasingly contested. Switzerland continues its remarkable streak at the top, holding the top spot for the 15th consecutive year, while Sweden and the United States round out the top three, underscoring the strength of their research ecosystems and tech-driven industries.
The big mover this year of the top 15 is South Korea, climbing to 4th place on the back of strong R&D investment and advanced manufacturing outputs. Singapore also stays in the top 5, reflecting its focus on digital infrastructure and business sophistication. Meanwhile, traditional innovation powerhouses like the UK and Germany remain strong but face growing competition.
The index shows that innovation success is built on a mix of institutions, human capital, tech outputs, and creative industries. With global competition intensifying, economies investing in talent and knowledge-driven sectors are best placed to stay ahead.
