3 Commodities Dominated Ghana's Exports in 2024

In 2024, Ghana’s total exports reached GH₵294.9 billion ($20.4B), resulting in a trade surplus of GH₵44.7 billion.
The country’s export profile remains heavily concentrated, with just three commodities—gold, petroleum fuels/oils, and cocoa—accounting for 83.4% of total exports. Gold bullion alone contributed GH₵163.0 billion, making up more than half of all exports. Despite this reliance on primary products, the “all other products” category still generated a notable GH₵42 billion (14.4%).
This level of concentration underscores the urgency of export diversification and value addition as strategic priorities to strengthen Ghana’s economic resilience and enhance global competitiveness.
