In 2024, China recorded the world’s highest net exports of manufactured goods at $1,929 billion, underscoring its dominant position in global manufacturing trade. Germany followed with a surplus of $373 billion, while other major Asian manufacturing powerhouses also posted significant surpluses—South Korea with $215 billion, Japan with $160 billion, and Taiwan (2023 data) with $143 billion.

 

Several mid-sized economies also maintained strong net export positions. Italy had a surplus of $117 billion, followed by Switzerland ($79 billion), Singapore ($57 billion, 2023 data), Vietnam ($53 billion, 2023 data), Netherlands ($43 billion), Malaysia ($31 billion), and Poland ($7 billion).

 

Conversely, a number of advanced and emerging economies ran trade deficits in manufactured goods. Hong Kong recorded a deficit of $21 billion, while Spain posted –$29 billion, India –$51 billion, and France –$57 billion. Larger deficits were seen in Canada (–$165 billion), the United Kingdom (–$177 billion), and especially the United States, which registered the largest net import value at –$1,383 billion.

 

These figures reflect the divergent roles countries play in global manufacturing supply chains—with East Asian economies largely focused on export-led models, and several advanced Western economies remaining heavy importers of manufactured goods.
