📈 Germany’s Trade Surplus with China Contrasts with the EU's Growing Deficit
Germany generally maintains a trade surplus with China, while the rest of the European Union faces an expanding trade deficit. As of August 2024 (TTM), Germany’s trade surplus with China stood at €2.4 billion, contrasting sharply with the EU (excluding Germany), which recorded a trade deficit of €284.2 billion. The EU’s trade deficit with China (excluding Germany) surged by 329% (CAGR of 20.0%) from €30 billion in 2000 to €127 billion in 2008. In a second phase of growth, the deficit rose by 79% (CAGR of 9.1%) from €159 billion in 2017 to €284 billion in 2024.
