The U.S. share of European Union trade (exports + imports) increased from 12.5% in 2009 to 17.3% in 2024, reflecting growing EU reliance on the U.S. as a trade partner. Meanwhile, the EU’s share of total U.S. trade declined slightly from 19.2% in 2009 to 18.1% in 2024. Despite this shift, the U.S. remains somewhat more dependent on trade with the EU than vice versa.
