China’s transportation equipment trade surplus has surged dramatically over the past five years, driven by rising exports and greater reliance on domestically produced parts and components. From 2020 to the twelve months ending September 2025, the surplus expanded by 880%, climbing from $24 billion to $230 billion. Over the same period, exports jumped 170% to $295 billion, while imports declined 25% to $65 billion. Automotive products accounted for roughly 70% of the total surplus.
