Higher U.S. tariffs have pushed China’s share of total U.S. imports down from 10.6% (12 months ending January 2026) to 7.5% (12 months ending November 2026) — the lowest level since 2002. During Trump 1.0, China’s share declined from 17.0% to 15.5% (–1.5 percentage points), while under the Biden presidency it fell more sharply from 15.5% to 10.6% (–4.9 percentage points).
