X is used by more than 9 million Brazilians monthly
📲 9.3 million Brazilians are monthly active users of X/Twitter, on average, considering only access to the app from cell phones with the Android operating system (Similarweb data).
18.3% of Android cell phones in Brazil have the X app installed and 54% of monthly active users on average access the app daily.
Very popular here, the social network is the target of a discussion about freedom of expression in the country after Elon Musk, owner of X, questioned the legitimacy of the restrictions imposed on some profiles on the network, by STF minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The restrictions on profiles were initially related to the context of the last presidential elections and were criticized in “Twitter Files Brazil” - a dossier by Michael Shellenberger that alleges that there are restrictions not supported by law.
Musk expressed discontent (in tweets) with the STF's actions, particularly with Minister Alexandre de Moraes, accusing him of aggressive censorship and making requests that would violate Brazilian law.
Musk said he would release restricted profiles on the social network, even if it meant closing the X office in Brazil.
In response, Alexandre de Moraes included Musk as being investigated in an investigation into digital militias and possible obstruction of justice and stipulated a fine of R$100,000 per day for each profile that the X platform reactivates, contrary to the STF's court orders.
