As digital platforms evolve, they become central to how people consume information. Today, social media sites act as major conduits for news, with their influence varying significantly from platform to platform.
Among U.S. adults, Facebook and YouTube significantly outpace all other social networks as regular news sources. Currently, 38% of American adults regularly get news on Facebook, while 35% turn to YouTube. Other platforms like Instagram and TikTok trail at 20% each, with X (formerly Twitter) hovering at 12%. Far smaller segments of the population regularly consume news on newer or more niche platforms such as Reddit, Nextdoor, and WhatsApp.
