Nvidia Had a Bumper 2023, Bucking Wider Industry Trends
What we’re showing:
A pie chart with the biggest semiconductor companies and their percentage share of the industry’s 2023 revenues.
Nvidi-YA!
What more could be said about Nvidia that hasn’t already been said over the last 12 months?
Big Tech's newest entrant became a trillion dollar stock last year, broke the single-day gain record this year, and has more than doubled its annual revenue between 2022 and 23.
And its impact on the wider landscape is apparent: Nvidia now accounts for 9% of the semiconductor industry’s revenue, up from 3.5% in 2022.
More interestingly, it is doing this at a time when other semiconductor companies are not doing as well. Out of the top 20 companies by revenue, 12 did not match their previous topline in 2023, including big names like: Intel, Samsung, and AMD.
In fact, as Omdia Research notes, companies in the memory segment—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology—are all seeing a decline from their highs in the mid-2010s.
