The Global Innovation Index (GII) by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ranks the world's leading economies according to their innovation capabilities. A common thread among top-performing nations is the presence of thriving Science and Technology (S&T) clusters.
A Science and Technology (S&T) cluster is a specific geographic area where innovation thrives, driven by the close interaction of research centers, universities, tech firms, startups, and patent-generating entities. These clusters act as hubs of creativity and progress, fostering the development of new technologies, scientific research, and knowledge sharing.
China, for the second consecutive year, leads with the most Science& Technology clusters (26) in the top 100. The United States follows closely behind with 20 clusters. Germany ranks third with eight clusters in the top 100.
