China installed 295,000 industrial robots in 2024, nearly 9× the 34,200 installed in the United States. The top-five comparison is stark: China installed more than six times Japan’s 44,500, the second-largest total. China also represented 54% of all industrial-robot installations worldwide. This measures new industrial robots installed in factories during 2024—not the total installed stock, robot quality, manufacturing output, or jobs. The figure does not prove that automation alone explains China’s manufacturing competitiveness.
