Are AI Tools Part of People's Day-to-Day Life?

Since the public release of ChatGPT in late 2022, generative AI tools have rapidly gained popularity as they are the most obvious, consumer-facing application and demonstration of AI's capabilities. And yet, the actual use of AI-powered chatbots such as ChatGPT is still surprisingly low, considering the buzz around them. According to a Statista Consumer Insights, roughly 3 in 10 U.S. adults had used ChatGPT or Meta AI in the 12 months leading up to August 2024, making them the two most popular options.
Trying AI tools is one thing, but actually using them in day-to-day life is an entirely different story. According to Statista Consumer Insights, 20 percent of Americans surveyed in August and September 2024 said that AI tools were part of their day-to-day life, which is not bad considering how recently these tools emerged. While the share of frequent users is similar in Germany, Mexico and the UK, it is considerably higher in Brazil and India at 33 and 41 percent, respectively.
It's also important to note that the actual use of AI-powered services probably far outstretches the use of AI tools as questioned here. With AI now running in the background of countless services people use routinely, many consumers don't even realize how often they already come in contact with AI in their daily lives.
