Where Data Tells the Story

The United States’ 12-month rolling net inflow of top AI authors and inventors fell from a machine-readable-data peak of 323.5 in December 2022 to 26.0 in September 2025—a 92% decline. The reversal is sharper than the headline alone suggests: the measure fell 80% in the latest 12 months. Yet U.S. dominance did not disappear. Among the 15 tracked countries with a common September 2025 observation, the United States still recorded 5.03 times the United Kingdom’s net inflow, the next-highest value. This is not gross immigration or a count of all AI workers. It is the source’s selected population of top AI authors and inventors, measured as movers into a country minus movers out and smoothed over 12 months.
