The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) in the U.S. has driven an extraordinary surge in semiconductor imports from Taiwan. U.S. imports of data processing units and integrated circuits from Taiwan skyrocketed by 450%, rising from $10 billion in 2022 to $55.1 billion in 2024. As a result, the U.S. share of Taiwan’s total exports in these categories jumped from 5.1% in 2022 to 23.1% in 2024. Taiwan remains the dominant foreign supplier of AI-critical chips, playing a pivotal role in supporting the rapid growth of the U.S. AI industry.
