📈 Global Industry Sales of Semiconductors (1980–2024)

In the early 1980s, the Americas—led by the U.S.—held nearly 60% of global semiconductor sales, dominating the industry. However, this share declined steadily, falling to about 20% by the 2010s as Asia's role expanded. Asia surpassed the Americas in 1985, and China emerged as the largest single-country market in the 2010s.

Europe’s share declined from over 30% in the early 1980s to just 8.1% in 2024. Japan, once the dominant player with around 40% market share in the mid-1980s, saw its share shrink to 7.4% by 2024.

In recent years, the U.S. has regained ground. The Americas’ share rose from 22.0% in 2018 to 25.5% in 2023, and surged to 30.9% in 2024—driven by a wave of AI-related investment—surpassing China’s 28.9%.
