After six years of stagnation, U.S. manufacturing construction spending surged by 196% from August 2021 to August 2024, reaching a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of $239 billion. Computer, electronic, and electrical manufacturing projects accounted for 72% of the total growth, with spending in this category skyrocketing 1,032%, compared to a 64% increase in the rest of the manufacturing sector. However, from August 2024 to May 2025, construction spending in computer, electronic, and electrical manufacturing declined by 7.2%, while spending across the rest of manufacturing fell by 3.4%.
