No other country in the record is at that level or positioned to reach it in the near future. Mexico hosted the 1970 tournament, where Pelé’s Brazil lifted the trophy in what many consider the most beautiful World Cup ever played.
It was hosted again in 1986, stepping in as an emergency replacement host after Colombia withdrew.
