Religious Denominations in Germany

Not all baptized individuals necessarily believe in God or actively participate in a religious community. Our graphic illustrates which faiths—or atheism—the German population is turning to. Over the years, Christianity has been steadily losing ground, while Islam is gaining followers. The reasons are clear.
Immigration from predominantly Muslim countries, combined with scandals within the Catholic Church and regulations that many view as outdated, have led to church departures in Germany and subsequent shifts in religious affiliation. Other religious communities, however, have managed to maintain stable membership numbers.
