The gender gap will remain a challenge in Europe in 2025. However, the frontrunners Iceland and Finland show how much can be achieved. Factors such as education, access to STEM professions and the unequal distribution of care work illustrate why, despite decades of progress, equality is still a long way off. It is interesting to note that more than half of all students in Germany are now female, yet the proportion of women in technical subjects remains low and the gender gap in politics and leadership positions remains wide.
