Female couples facing divorce more often

Female couples divorced significantly more often than male couples in 2023. Although women enter into same-sex marriages more frequently, their divorce rates are disproportionately higher. While the divorce rate for women stands at 17.1%, it is only 10.9% for men.

Studies suggest this may be due to higher emotional expectations and societal pressures, which often have a stronger impact on female partnerships.

With Generation Z increasingly questioning traditional gender roles, the number of same-sex marriages could rise – along with divorces. At the same time, declining divorce rates among heterosexual couples show that other long-term trends are also possible.
