🇮🇹 In the history of the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film, between 1948 and 2025, Italy has consistently held the record for the most wins with 14 statuettes. Two legendary directors, Federico Fellini and Vittorio De Sica, each played a major role in this success, winning four times apiece.
🇫🇷 Italy has even surpassed France, which ranks second with 12 wins. France, however, holds the record for the most nominations, 42 compared to Italy’s 34, but has been less successful in turning nominations into victories.
🇩🇰 Denmark has received more than ten nominations and four wins in the category’s history, including the acclaimed Another Round (2021), which also brought director Thomas Vinterberg a nomination for Best Director.
🇷🇺 The Soviet Union achieved three wins with War and Peace (1968), Dersu Uzala (1975, co-directed with Japan), and Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears (1980). After the collapse of the USSR, Russia won only once with Burnt by the Sun (1993, directed by Nikita Mikhalkov) and has since earned nominations without further victories.
🇸🇪 Sweden has also claimed three wins, all of them connected to the work of director Ingmar Bergman.
