When Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to $360.1 million this July, it claimed the biggest domestic opening weekend in history, narrowly passing the $357.1 million earned by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
Raw dollar comparisons favor newer releases, however, since ticket prices rise over time. Adjusting past openings for inflation produces a different winner.
This graphic ranks the 25 biggest domestic (U.S. and Canada) opening weekends, with every debut converted to June 2026 dollars. Opening grosses come from the Box Office Mojo all-time chart as of August 2026 and are adjusted using the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index.
