Together with the piano learning app Skoove, we analysed 14 months of Spotify data (800,000+ chart entries): Where does local music rule and where does the world sound like one-size-fits-all playlists?
Highlights from Germany:
- 73% German rap: Acts such as Pashanim, Apache 207 and LACAZETTE dominate - hip-hop almost solely characterises the charts.
- Techno barely visible: Despite Berlin's image, electro only accounts for 12% of streams.
- In the midfield: 26th out of 73 in terms of support for local music - neither particularly local nor completely global.
And in a global comparison:
- France: Over 60% French acts - twice as much as the UK or Spain.
- Puerto Rico > Spain: Bad Bunny & Co. outperform Spain's own stars.
- USA: In the top 5 in 70 out of 73 countries - streaming world power.
