President Trump signed the most first-day executive orders of recent presidents
President Trump signed 26 executive orders on Inauguration Day – the most first-day executive orders since 1969.
Since 1969, the 10 US presidents have signed an average of 269 executive orders during their time in office. Two-term presidents averaged 328, while single-term presidents averaged 216.
Jimmy Carter, a single-term president, holds the record for the highest yearly average, signing 80 executive orders per year. On the flip side, Barack Obama, a two-term president, averaged the fewest: just 35 per year.
What do you think about the use of executive orders? Are they an efficient way to get things done or do they bypass important checks and balances?
