DOGE Cuts Fall Short

Elon Musk’s DOGE initiative aimed for ambitious government spending cuts in 2025—targeting up to $2 trillion in a "best-case outcome."

Musk himself suggested a more realistic $1 trillion reduction as a “good shot.”

However, the actual estimated savings from DOGE’s proposed cuts come in at just $180 billion as of June 2025—only 2.6% of the federal budget.

But, further cuts are on the horizon. The House of Representatives recently passed the "recissions package" that would claw back $9.4 billion in approved spending, including funding to the U.S. Agency for International Development, NPR and PBS, and codify cuts proposed by DOGE.

The bill is now headed to the Senate.
