Analyzing the Emotional Range of U.S. Politicians, Based on Language Use
To understand the role that words play in politics, we teamed up with word experts at WordTips to analyze the language of the most prominent politicians in the U.S. and UK, studying the words used across hundreds of transcripts and focusing on instances where their dialogue was least likely to have been pre-written. For example, we avoided speeches and public statements but favored interviews.
The graphic and dataset we're sharing here is connected to the sentiment analysis portion of the full study, where we used a natural language processing AI algorithm (HuggingFace) to calculate the % of interventions (E.g., responses to an interviewer's questions) that expressed positive, negative or neutral sentiment.
