How to choose

Gift cards that can be used to purchase a wide variety of things (e.g. Visa, Amazon) continue to be the most popular.

Compared to 2023's ranking, Walmart and Costco gift cards have risen greatly in popularity (up 17 and 28 places respectively).

Don’t forget to use them

According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent $30 billion on gift cards for the 2023 Christmas season.

Unfortunately, a large share of this value goes unspent. A July survey by Bankrate found that 47% of Americans had at least one unspent gift card with an average value of $187.
