Most Countries in the World Are Small Countries ๐

What We're Showing
UN member countries categorized by population groups (less than 1M, 1M to 10M, 10M to 100M, and over 100M).
Population figures are from the United Nations for 2023.
A Majority of Countries Are Small
The majority of the worldโs countries are small, with most UN-recognized states (51%) having populations under 10 million.
Many of these are island nations or smaller European countries, which together account for around 4% of the global UN member state population, showing a stark divide between geographic sovereignty and demographic weight.
While countries with a population of 10 million or more make up 49% of all UN states, they make up 96% of the total population.
