Developer Update: January 2024
Welcome to the first Developer Update from the Voronoi team!
Release Notes (Jan. 10 update)
We’re pleased to announce several enhancements that will improve the overall user experience.
Note: If you don’t have auto-update enabled, you’ll need to manually update through your app store.
Finally, working view counters
View counters were not accurately registering the amount of traffic on posts. This has now been fixed, meaning you’ll start to see a lot more engagement than before!
New and improved push notifications
You may recall that we trialed push notifications a couple weeks ago. As many users pointed out, they weren’t always taking you to the right place.
We’re happy to report that notifications will now open Voronoi and take you directly to the intended post. This means we’ll be able to inform you about trending visualizations and breaking stories.
A smoother onboarding experience
We’ve revisited the onboarding process for new users to make it as intuitive as possible. We also added a reminder to create an account as the final step.
Ongoing Development
Comment threads are on the way
The comments section is set for a major overhaul, allowing users to tag, reply, and react to each other. Our goal is to enable everyone to engage in meaningful discussions and share feedback with their favorite creators.
All the notifications
Also in the works are in-app notifications. Once rolled out, these notifications will pop up within Voronoi to let you know when other users have engaged with your comments or posts.
A new addition to your feed
We’re close to rolling out a new type of post that will spice up your feeds. You can think of them as “sticky notes” or “cards”, and they’ll serve a range of purposes:
- Offer a new way to discover content
- Enable polls and other community-based features
- Share powerful data points that may not warrant an entire visualization
- Highlight new features and tips to make the most of Voronoi
Search visualizations by topic
We’re working on a feature that will allow users to filter by topic in the “search” section of the app.
Milestones
Welcoming our first creators
To date, we’ve onboarded over 20 creators who share our passion for data storytelling. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us—we can’t wait to see what you’ll create!
Closing in on 20,000 users
At the time of this update, we’ve reached almost 20,000 total downloads across Android and iOS.
Conclusion
Our next update is scheduled for February, so stay tuned for more exciting enhancements!
