Amtrak revenues have covered less of its costs since 2019

Amtrak nearly paid for itself in 2019, recouping 99% of operating costs through ticket revenues. Since then, due to COVID, rising inflation, and capital investments, the tracks have been a bit bumpier.

So far in 2024, revenues have covered around 81% in costs.
