Sunniest Cities in the US

Using data from Wikipedia’s Total Annual Sunshine Hours, this infographic highlights the 20 sunniest cities in the United States.

Despite its nickname, the "Sunshine State" of Florida places only two cities in the top 20—Miami and Tampa. California, the “Golden State,” leads the list with five.

At the top is Yuma, Arizona—a city of roughly 100,000 in the state’s southwestern corner near California and Mexico. It averages 4,015 hours of sunshine per year, or about 11 hours per day.

Most of the sunniest cities cluster in the Southwest, though there are notable exceptions. The northernmost city is Boise, Idaho. Mile-high Denver ranks #11, while Memphis is the only mid-south metropolis on the list. Vacation destination Honolulu is no surprise at #15.
