Graphite is a critical mineral used in batteries, lubricants, and steelmaking, and the supply behind it is highly concentrated. China holds an estimated 100 million metric tons of reserves, the most of any country, and together with Brazil (74 million) it accounts for more than half of the world's total. Three African countries, Madagascar, Mozambique and Tanzania, add up to 70 million tons between them, nearly matching Brazil alone. After the top six, reserves drop off sharply, with Vietnam, India and Türkiye each holding under 10 million tons.
