Key Findings – 6th Round of India’s Remittances Survey (2023-24) 💸🌍
- Remittances Surge:
- India’s remittances more than doubled in the past decade, rising from USD 55.6 billion (2010-11) to USD 118.7 billion (2023-24) – reinforcing India’s position as the world’s top recipient.
- Shift in Source Countries:
- The US emerged as the top contributor with a 27.7% share.
- The UAE followed at 19.2%.
- Advanced Economies (AEs) like the UK, Canada, Australia, and Singapore together contributed over 50% of total remittances.
- UK’s share rose sharply to 10.8% (from 3.4% in 2016-17).
- Australia also emerged as a key contributor with 2.3% share.
Top Recipient States:
- Maharashtra remained the top recipient with 20.5%,
- Followed by Kerala (19.7%),
- Tamil Nadu (10.4%), Telangana (8.1%), and Karnataka (7.7%).
- Notable growth in remittances was also seen in Punjab and Haryana.
📈 The data reflects changing global migration and income patterns, with India’s diaspora playing a vital role in strengthening foreign inflows.
