The EU population increased by 705,756 in 2025 even though 4.81 million deaths exceeded 3.46 million births, producing a natural decrease of 1.35 million. Eurostat’s net migration plus statistical adjustment was +2.06 million, leaving the EU with net population growth. Across all 27 members, only six recorded both natural increase and positive migration. In 10 countries, positive migration plus adjustment reversed a natural decrease; nine still shrank because it did not fully offset that decrease; Estonia and Latvia had both negative natural change and negative migration plus adjustment. The classification uses 2025 demographic balances released in July 2026. Eurostat derives this migration measure as total population change minus births-minus-deaths, so it includes statistical adjustment and is not a direct count of border entries.
