Top Companies Are Consistently Outperforming Index
The gap between the S&P 500 and the index’s top 50 companies’ returns is widening, indicating increasing dependence of the index's performance on large-cap corporations.
As of July 1st, the S&P 500 index saw returns of 14.8% while the top 50 companies returned 22.3%–the largest difference in returns so far this year.
An index of the top 10 companies, consisting of tech giants like Microsoft, Nvidia, Apple, and Amazon, returned 31.3% as of July, more than double that of the overall index.
