Airbus and Boeing: Unfilled Orders for Aircraft
Plane manufacturers Boeing and Airbus had the largest backlog of orders in 2024 of any previous years. As of July 31, 2024, Boeing has delivered 218 aircraft to customers this year and Airbus has delivered 400. According to Forecast International, we can expect Boeing to deliver a total of 489 jets by the end of 2024 and Airbus, 764. These figures exclude military aircraft.
If the manufacturers continue to produce airplanes at 2023 production levels, the number of aircraft left to be built and delivered represents 11.7 years of shipments for both companies.
Regulators have allowed Boeing to produce up to 38 737’s a month. However, the company has opted to slow its production line due to the overhaul of its safety and quality management system.
Despite the heavy backlog, the manufacturers continue to take in new orders.
Note: These figures exclude militarized variants of commercial platforms such as Boeing’s P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and KC-46 Pegasus tanker and Airbus’ A330 MRTT tanker.
