55% of U.S. Retail Investors Don't Care About ESG
What we're showing
This chart visualizes the results of a 2023 survey from online trading platform, Public. Responses were gathered from U.S. adults aged 18+, between July to Aug 2023 (n=1,105).
Key takeaway
A slight majority of retail investors don't care about ESG, with most believing that ESG metrics are not important when making investment decisions. A smaller subset of this group do consider ESG metrics, but only to make sure companies are not jeopardizing financial performance to satisfy ESG criteria.
Context
These findings differ quite significantly from surveys of institutional investors. For example, an Aug 2023 survey from Bloomberg found that 9 in 10 executives planned to increase their firm's spending on ESG data (n=100).
