📈 J.P. Morgan’s Ascent and Citigroup’s Decline (2000–2025)

From 2000 to January 2025, J.P. Morgan’s market capitalization surged 1,164%, rising from $60 billion to $753 billion. Bank of America grew 376% (from $75 billion to $355 billion), and Wells Fargo increased 176% (from $95 billion to $262 billion). In contrast, Citigroup’s market capitalization fell 33%, declining from $229 billion to $154 billion.
The combined market capitalization of the top four U.S. banks—J.P. Morgan, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup—reached $1.52 trillion in January 2025, a 232% increase since 2000. While J.P. Morgan had the lowest valuation among these banks in 2000, by 2025, its market capitalization had nearly equaled the combined value of the other three.
