Prevalence of tobacco use among people aged 15+ in Europe
This map shows the prevalence of tobacco use among people over 15 years of age in Europe in 2022 according to the World Health Organization (WHO). It shows the percentage of the population who use tobacco products regularly or occasionally, including both smoked and smokeless forms. Tobacco products include cigarettes, pipes, cigars, cigarillos, water pipes (hookah, shisha), bidis, kretek, heated tobacco, and all forms of smokeless tobacco (oral and nasal). E-cigarettes and similar devices are excluded because they do not contain tobacco. Data are standardized by age in accordance with WHO international norms.
- The lowest rates of tobacco use are found in Iceland (9.4%), Norway and the United Kingdom (14.2% each).
- The highest rates are found in Eastern Europe and the Balkans, with Bulgaria and Serbia leading the way with a consumption rate of 39.5%.
