If you look at the map of trust in news in Europe, it is immediately apparent how differently people in different countries view the media. In Northern and Western Europe, news enjoys a fairly high level of trust. Finland (67%), Denmark (56%), Norway, and Portugal (both 54%) lead the way, with most people there considering news sources to be trustworthy.
However, the situation is quite different in the UK and especially in France. In France, for example, only 29% of the population trusts the news, one of the lowest figures on the continent.
In Southern and Eastern Europe, trust in the news is also low, often falling below 40%. The lowest figures are in Hungary and Greece, where only 22% of respondents consider the news to be reliable.
