From 2007 to 2024, U.S. international investment assets (U.S.-owned assets abroad) grew 73%, rising from $20.7 trillion to $35.9 trillion. Over the same period, international investment liabilities (foreign-owned assets in the U.S.) surged 183%, from $22.0 trillion to $62.1 trillion. As a result, net U.S. international investment liabilities increased more than twentyfold, from $1.3 trillion in 2007 to $26.2 trillion in 2024.
