The Impact of Lead Exposure on Cognitive Performance

In examining the implications of lead exposure on cognitive performance, a groundbreaking study by Kumar, D. et al. (2024) across ten urban cities in India, researchers uncovered a troubling link between blood lead levels and cognitive performance among urban school children. 

The visualization breaks down cognitive test performance among 2,247 students from 10 Indian cities, covering both Government (1,405) and Private (842) school students. 

The study highlighted a significant disparity, with government school students scoring lower across all tests. Many of these students, particularly those with elevated blood lead levels, showed marked difficulties in attention, concentration, and visual-spatial processing.
