How Old Are The World's Leaders? π
What We're Showing
The average ages of OECD countries' elected legislators and the age of the current country leader as of July 2024.
The data for average ages of elected legislators comes from the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the ages of each country's leader comes from Wikipedia. Portugal data was not available.
U.S Has OECD's Oldest Politicians
U.S. President Joe Biden, aged 81, is currently the oldest world leader of an OECD country, followed by Israel's 74-year-old prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. The U.S. also currently has highest average age for elected legislators.
If 78-year-old Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump wins this year's election, the U.S would still have the eldest OECD leader. On the other hand, if Democrat nominee and current Vice President Kamala Harris wins, the U.S. would have a notably younger leader at 60 years old.
In general, OECD leaders tend to be older than the average legislator in their governments, with the exception of Estonia, Italy, France, Ireland, and Chile.
