This graphic shows changing American attitudes towards their government's foreign policy priorities, measured by the the biggest percentage point change in survey data between 2018 and 2024.
Pew Research recruited 3,600 respondents for their survey panel through a national, random sampling of residential addresses. The panel is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Please see their methodology page (linked in the source) for more details.
The ongoing national security concerns with China, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the newest flare up in the Israel–Palestine conflict are all influencing Americans’ feelings on what the government should prioritize regarding their foreign policy.
On the other hand, respondents aren’t as concerned about America’s overseas military commitments any more, perhaps a reflection of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
